Research Project Animation

I have posted my animation online. I used found objects. I animated an artist’s mannequin exploring other items on a desk. The idea was to create an alien character to explore objects that to me are very familiar, but the character has never encountered such objects before. The character is also small, so the objects are very big, but to me they are pocket sized. In producing this animation it required me to deconstruct what the objects mean to me and to consider what they would mean to an alien character. I discovered things about the objects that I had never really considered before, and made me realise how much people take objects for granted. As a designer this project has made me think about how significant objects are in performance, and consider the messages they can give out to an audience.

Research Project

I am currently researching around the subject of objects in relations to puppets and animation. My current working title is “Using the theory of objects (found and crafted) to form a concept for a short stop-motion animation”

I am looking at various theories, including semiotics and phenomenology and the theory of found objects and crafted objects, to help me understand how objects can create meaning in object based art forms such as puppetry and stop-motion animation. Creating a short stop-motion video will also form part of my process. To read more click here…
